North Marion High School Week 1

The first few days at North Marion were very beneficial because it was the behind the scenes of teaching that I had not experienced before. I got to sit in on the meetings and help with first day preparations. I also helped out with setting up the classroom. I have never seen how everything is pulled together in the beginning of the year. I was a little nervous for the first full week with students because my previous experience was in kindergarten. The students and faculty were very welcoming and my nerves were quickly calmed. Everyone at North Marion has done a great job in making me feel welcome and like I am a part of their team. I am treated like an equal which has made me more comfortable feeling like an authority figure to students who are only a few years younger than myself.

I observed and assisted in my classes and started to get to know the students and became more familiar with how things flow. I looked through the materials for the geometry class that I will be taking over next week to make sure I was comfortable with everything I needed to teach. I am looking forward to seeing how the students will respond to me teaching them and how well I will be able to instruct them. I hope they respond well and will easily grasp the concepts I am teaching. I am however scared of not having enough to do. I am not yet comfortable with time management and am worried of running out of things to do during the class period.

  1. Glad to hear it's off to such a great start. Best strategy with being worried about not having enough to do is to overplan rather than underplan. You can always carry things over for another lesson if you plan too much. Getting comfortable with that takes time and experience.
