The artifact I chose was a three week unit on the Rainforest. The unit covered several content areas including;science, visual art, and reading and language arts. I put this artifact into characteristic number 10 The novice teacher should be liberally educated because it does cover multiple content areas and integrates technology. This artifact could have fit into several other characteristics, but I believe characteristic 10 was the best match. The Rainforest unit allows students to integrate a wide variety of fields and the webquest within it allows students to continue searching for more knowledge. The unit also consists of several projects that have students act constructively to new ideas for example create save the rainforest posters.

I completely agree with your posting. I am a strong believer that this unit on the Amazon Rainforest goes along with Characteristic #10. I feel that since this particular unit covers and integrates several content areas and technology, which therefore represents a clear match with Characteristic #10.
ReplyDeleteAnother Characteristic that you may want to consider for this unit may be Characteristic #7. I feel that this may be a good one for this unit due to the fact that it includes content and pedagogy which could be considered another key factor for your unit plan.
Glad to see you're analyzing several areas where it might fit. As you continue to refine your portfolio, you'll find that others might be a better fit here and you'll want to move it.
ReplyDeleteWhat other fields would the students be searching and how? Depending on how projects were chosen and how the other subject areas tied into your unit you could use Characteristic 4 as a fit if you allowed for student's learning styles by differentiating instruction.
